Bengaluru Woman Wins Rs 3,000 After Suing IKEA for Charging Rs 20 for Carry Bag
Bengaluru woman wins Rs 3,000 after she sued IKEA for charging Rs 20 for a bag. Here is what happened.

A Bengaluru woman has recently won a case against IKEA over a Rs 20-carry bag. It happened after the store charged her this amount after shopping at its Bengaluru outlet. As a result, a city court instructed IKEA to give her a refund along with Rs 3,000 in compensation. It all started when Sangeetha Bohra visited IKEA Bengaluru in October last year. She bought stuff worth Rs 2,428. She was charged Rs 20 for a carry bag which had IKEA branding. On arguing about how customers cannot be charged for bags which have the company’s branding, the staff did not agree to drop the amount.

The woman was forced to pay the amount before she left the showroom. However, she sent the Swedish-retail giant a legal notice. To this, the company responded and refused to give a refund.

In March this year, she complained to the Bengaluru Urban area’s consumer disputes redressal commission about the entire incident. On October 4, the consumer forum passed a verdict stating that IKEA had committed “unfair trade” practice and said that it must adequately compensate the woman.

According to reports, the court ordered IKEA to refund the Rs 20 for the carry bag and pay her a total of Rs 3,000 in compensation. This also included her court expenses.

The brand was asked to make the payment within a month.

This is not the first time that IKEA Bengaluru has made headlines. Earlier this year, a woman visiting the IKEA store in Bengaluru had a horrifying experience when a mouse fell from the ceiling onto her table. This happened while she was enjoying her meal at the food court. ‘X’ user Sharanyashettyy shared horrifying images of the incident, showing the dead mouse on the table with their snacks. In the caption, she wrote, “Wtf.. guess what fell on our food table at IKEA… I can’t even. We were eating and this rat just dropped dead… Most bizarre moment ever!”
