Media Made A Fuss: Raveena Tandon On Suicide Rumours After Breakup With Akshay Kumar
Raveena Tandon also talked about how a magazine brought a story that said she tried to commit suicide but in reality, she was sick and in the hospital.

Raveena Tandon is known for always voicing her opinions honestly without any filters. The actress’ film Patna Shukla, which breaks through many cliches, was released on OTT on March 29. In the meantime, Raveena herself has played her part in strengthening women and breaking through clichés. For example, she adopted two girls at the age of 21. In a recent interview, she talked about the things people said when she adopted two girls, which was a result of harsh media coverage of her separation from Akshay Kumar.

In an interview with Barkha Dutt for Mojo Story, she was asked if she now laughs in retrospect when she thinks of everything that was reported in the media after her broken engagement to Akshay Kumar. She reacted and said, “Yes, what’s so bad? So many relationships break down, people move on, and you stay friends…You realise that we were not good as partners, but as friends we are good. So, what’s so bad? I don’t understand. I was doing well. The media made a bigger fuss because they wanted to sell their magazines at the time. But personally, among us, between my friends and what my family thought was important to me. At a certain point, I didn’t care about people’s opinions.”

Raveena also talked about how a magazine brought a story that said she tried to commit suicide, but in reality, she was sick and in the hospital. She admitted that her doctor wanted to shake off this gossip magazine that brought a story about her suicide when in reality she was suffering from meningitis.

The actress admitted that she had all her hospital reports to prove this and was not the kind of person who commits suicide. She then adopted two girls and kept them away from media coverage for two reasons. There was no control over the kind of stories that made the rounds.

“The day I brought my two girls home. I felt like they didn’t have the life they deserved, and that happened closer to my home, and I decided to take responsibility. The day I turned 21, I brought them to me. I kept them away because they were too young. I didn’t want them to be exposed to peer pressure or harsh comments! That was one reason why they should be protected from the spotlight of the media. Another reason was that gossip magazines would make a different story, they would say these are their hidden children, whom they hid at the age of 11 or 13. They dehumanised us!” she shared.
