Gold, silver prices hit a new high
On the back of increased buying by stockists and speculators, gold and silver prices hit a new high of Rs 8,855 and Rs 19,545 respectively at opening on the bullion market.

Mumbai: On the back of increased buying by stockists and speculators, gold and silver prices hit a new high of Rs 8,855 and Rs 19,545 respectively at opening on the bullion market in Mumbai on Saturday.

Standard gold (99.5 fineness) and pure gold (99.9 purity) opened at new highs of Rs 8,855 and Rs 8,900 respectively from their previous all-time highs of Rs 8,830 and Rs 8,875 hit on Friday.

Ready silver (.999 fineness) shot up by Rs 225 to open the day at a high of Rs 19,545 surpassing the previous high of Rs 19,480 recorded on April 11.

In international market, gold prices touched a 25-year high $604 an ounce on Tuesday. So far, gold had touched its highest level in January, 1980, when the metal was traded at $870 an ounce.
