Sunday trade: Sensex ends above 10k
The markets ended with modest gains on Sunday's special trading session. The Sensex gained 11.63 points to end at 10,412.93.

New Delhi: The markets ended with modest gains on Sunday's special trading session.

The Sensex gained 11.63 points or 0.11 per cent to end at 10,412.93. It touched an intraday high of 10,510.07 and an intraday low of 10,367.04.

The Nifty also closed up 7.60 points or 0.25 per cent at 3050.30.

It touched an intraday high of 3083 and an intraday low of 3035.95.

The BSE Small Cap Index also closed up 79.92 points or 1.44 per cent at 5,613.43. The BSE Midcap Index also ended up 45.95 points or 1.04 per cent at 4,467.08.

The total market breadth was positive, about 1428 shares advanced, 557 shares declined, and 38 shares remained unchanged.

Tata Steel, ONGC, Dr Reddy's Labs, Ranbaxy Labs, Wipro, SAIL and BPCL were the biggest gainers.

However, top losers were HDFC Bank, SBI, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Energy, ACC, Shipping Corp, Jet Airways and Nalco.

Metals were the biggest gainers due to Mittal-Arcelor news despite of volatility in markets in the last trade.

The BSE Metal Index gained 2.29 per cent or 189.71 points at 8,482.55 due to buying in Welspun Guj, Jindal Saw, Tata Steel, SAIL, Sterlite Ind, Jindal Steel and Guj NRE Coke.

The BSE Healthcare Index also ended in green as gains were seen in Apollo Hospitals, FDC, Divis Labs, Sterling Bio, Wyeth, Pfizer, GSK Pharma, Nicholas Piramal, Ranbaxy Labs, Dr Reddy's Labs, Matrix Lab, Cadila Healthcare, Wockhardt, Lupin, Biocon and Novartis India.

Consumer durables stocks like Samtel Color, Su-Raj Diamonds, Whirlpool, Titan Industries and BPL also finished positive. The BSE Consumer Durables Index moved up 0.79 per cent at 2,777.83.

Some gains were also seen in technology, auto, capital goods, oil & gas and FMCG stocks.

However, banking stocks lost ground.
