The festive season truly acts as a pivotal catalyst for boosting online sales and heightened e-commerce engagement. This was also witnessed during Holi 2024 when prominent e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart, Swiggy, Blinkit and Zepto saw a substantial surge in online Holi sales. While most of these platforms are engaged in quick commerce, aka q-commerce, suggesting that the majority of orders were placed for one-day delivery, social media posts from the platforms provide details on the same.

Rohit Kapoor, chief executive officer, of the food marketplace for Swiggy, took to X and shared that they have been receiving massive orders for gujiya and thandai. “Swiggy has been buzzing with orders for gujiya and thandai since Friday. With a mouthwatering selection of 192 gujiya and 242 thandai varieties across India,” he wrote.

He further shared that a user from Lucknow spent a whopping Rs 28,830 on Gujiyas ordered from Swiggy for their Holi celebrations. “Now, that’s an epic Holi party I wish I was part of!” Kapoor wrote.

Similarly, Phani Kishan, co-founder of Swiggy and Swiggy Instamart, also shared about the demand for pichkaris, gulals and Holi-themed t-shirts. “Holi is living up to its name and beating Choti Holi numbers. Orders per minute are higher than Sunday morning. The gulal and festivities are in full flow,” he wrote.

Mentioning that Swiggy Instagram has already sold five times more flowers than Holi last year, he also shared that almost every order on Monday included a packet of gulal. “Looks like Jaipur is having an epic water balloon fight. Someone just ordered 900 water balloons, delivered in less than 10 minutes. Hope they’re gearing up to win that splash showdown,” he added.

Blinkit records the highest-ever orders on Holi

On the other hand, quick-commerce platform Blinkit also recorded a massive surge in its sales on Holi even surpassing its previous sales records on Valentine’s Day earlier this year. “We hit our all time high orders, OPM (orders per minute), and almost every other metric on the board! Thank you for choosing us for your Holi needs. Visiting some stores today to celebrate with my favourite team. Happy Holi to you and your family,” wrote Albinder Dhindsa, Blinkit CEO on X.

Blinkit’s rival, Zepto, also witnessed a similar surge in sales during the festival.

CEO Aadit Palicha shared details of the platform’s business on Holi and noted a rise in white T-shirt sales since Monday morning. It also witnessed a boost in the sales of laundry essentials, juices, and mixers.
