Thai Meethu Sathiyam is an action drama that was released in 1978. On October 30, the film completed 45 years of release. It is considered one of the most popular films in Tamil cinema. The plot of the film is about a shepherd whose parents are murdered by gangsters. Later, he pledges to take revenge for his parents’ deaths. He trains under the local zamindar and dresses himself like a cowboy, equipping himself with the zamindar’s guns and a horse. How he fulfils his pledge to kill the criminals forms the theme of the film.

According to reports, Thai Meethu Sathiyam was first planned to be made in the 1960s with MG Ramachandran as the lead. At that time, Ramachandran was unwell and was also involved in a legal case. As a result, the film was shelved.

Later, popular producer Thevar revived the film and gave Rajinikanth an opportunity to star as the lead. Sadly, Thevar passed away while the project was filming. Thai Meethu Sathiyam was released after Thevar’s death, and the film was a huge hit. As per reports, the film ran for more than 100 days in theatres. The film followed the most popular and recurrent themes of Tamil cinema at that time, that is revenge. This made it even more popular among the masses.

The film was directed by R Thyagarajan. Apart from Rajinikanth, the film also starred Sripriya, Mohan Babu, Prabhakar, Suruli Rajan, Sundararajan, AVM Rajan, SA Ashokan, Nagesh, Ambareesh in important roles.
