Cinematographer Velraj, known for his work on successful Dhanush-starrers like Velaiyilla Pattathari and Thanga Magan, is set to team up with actor Sasikumar for an upcoming project. This yet-to-be-titled film will be produced by JSB Sathish under the JSB Film Studios banner, known for supporting hit projects such as Merlin, Asuraguru, Singappenney, and GST.
Velraj is acclaimed not only for his cinematography but also for his directorial work. He has made notable contributions to Dhanush’s filmography, including Polladhavan, Aadukalam, Vada Chennai, and Asuran. He also served as the cinematographer for Dhanush’s directorial debut, Pa Paandi, a 2017 release that featured Rajkiran, Dhanush, Revathi, Madonna Sebastian, and Prasanna in leading roles. The film received positive reviews from critics and was a commercial success. It was subsequently remade in Kannada as Ambi Ning Vayassaytho.
In addition to his work with Dhanush, Velraj was behind the camera for the Sasikumar-starrer drama film Udanpirappe, released in 2021. The movie, written and directed by Era Saravanan, was produced by Suriya and Jyothika under their 2D Entertainment banner. The film featured Jyothika, M. Sasikumar, and Samuthirakani in key roles and had music composed by D. Imman. Udanpirappe was made available on the digital platform Amazon Prime Video, and it marked Jyothika’s 50th film. The film received mixed reviews from critics.
Currently, Velraj is occupied with Viduthalai Part 2, a sequel to the Tamil-language historical crime thriller written by B. Jeyamohan and co-written with filmmaker Vetrimaaran. The film is jointly produced by Elfred Kumar and Vetrimaaran under the banners of RS Infotainment and Grass Root Film Company. The ensemble cast includes Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, Bhavani Sre, Soori, and Vijay Sethupathi. Both Viduthalai Part 1 and its sequel are adaptations of Jeyamohan’s short story Thunaivan.
As for Sasikumar, he has multiple projects in various stages of production, including Pagaivanuku Arulvai, Naa Naa, Evidence, and Nandhan. Recently, he appeared in the drama film Ayothi, directed by newcomer R. Manthira Moorthy, which also featured Yashpal Sharma, Preethi Asrani, Pugazh, Anju Asrani, and Master Advaith Vinod in leading roles. Sasikumar continues to be a prominent figure in the Tamil film industry, known for his versatile roles and contributions as an actor and filmmaker.
