The grand release of Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo is nothing short of a celebration for the actor’s fans all over India. The dynamic duo of Vijay and Lokesh Kanagaraj has returned after their previous big success Master. The hype for Leo has been at its peak as the film is set in the same shared universe as Kaithi and Vikram, both huge hits.
As part of the celebrations, fans cut a cake and performed Palabhishekam of Vijay’s cutout at the Vettri Theatres located near Chrompet, Chennai. Huge crowds had gathered for the 9 a.m. show and were seen dancing and celebrating.
The fans had extra reason to cheer because the screening was attended by director Lokesh Kanagarj himself along with the music composer Anirudh Ravichander. The duo were mobbed while attending the screening but they still had smiles on their faces and readily interacted with the fans present at the location.
The Tamil Nadu government had refused permission for the early morning shows of 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. in the state due to a recent act of vandalism. During the screening of the trailer for Leo, some fans reportedly caused damage to the seats inside the theatre in random acts of excitement. Many theatre owners also banned any type of celebrations inside the premises of the theatre and that is why all the celebrations were held outside the premises of the theatre.
Leo has set a record for having the biggest worldwide opening for a Tamil film, claims industry tracker Sacnilk.com. In addition to Tamil, the action thriller has also been released in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. The film opened in theatres worldwide on Thursday morning. It was also a first for both Vijay and Lokesh that the movie opened to a worldwide box office total of Rs 140 crore, according to Sacnilk.com.
The film boasts an ensemble cast including Sanjay Dutt, Trisha, Arjun Sarja, Mysskin, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Mansoor Ali Khan.
