When MG Ramachandran's Anna Nee En Deivam Was Revived After 14 Years Of Delay
Anna Nee En Deivam was supposed to go on floors in 1976 but due to MG Ramachandaran's political commitments, the film was shelved.

The South film industry churns out hundreds of films in a year. Among these, there are many that don’t see the light of the day. There are also many unfortunate projects in the entertainment industry which get started but are eventually shelved for one reason or another. These movies even include big names such as Nandmamuri Balakrishna and MG Ramachandran as well. It is often believed that shelved movies cannot be revived.

Tamil film Anna Nee En Deivam proved such notions wrong. It is one such Tamil movie by actor-politician MG Ramachandran, which was revived 14 years after getting shelved in 1976. The film was directed by CV Sridhar and starred actor MG Ramachandran in the lead role. It was later remade as another film titled Avasara Police 100 in 1990.

Anna Nee En Deivam was announced in 1976 after CV Sridhar gained fame through his film Urimaikural, which marked the first collaboration between him and MG Ramachandran. During the production of the movie, Sridhar was simultaneously making another movie titled Meenava Nanvan with MG Ramachandran. This movie was completed and was released in 1977.

Anna Nee En Deivam was supposed to go on floors in 1976 but due to MG Ramachandaran’s political commitments, it was shelved. He became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 1977 and retired from filmmaking and acting. Anna Nee En Deivam’s music composition by MS Viswanathan was completed before the film was shelved.

Sankaran and Aarumugam, who produced Anna Nee En Deivam, gave the negative roles and the rights of the film to Duraisamy, who financed the movie. He faced huge losses in the distribution business due to this. K Bhagyaraj, who watched half of the film, took MG Ramachandran’s permission to incorporate the movie story in his upcoming movie Avasara Police 100.

K Bhagyaraj was a fan of MG Ramachandran and was disappointed he could not act in the film. He developed the story of Anna Nee En Deivam and released it under the name of Avasara Police 100. It had many scenes from Anna Nee En Deivam and also became a super hit at the box office. It is said that producing a new film by using footage from an already shot film is not an easy task to execute. K Bhagyaraj successfully completed this task and gave a Tamil classic.
