AB de Villiers seems to be learning new Hindi words on his every trip to India and the latest addition to the list is ‘Jugaad’. The South African legend is currently busy with his commentary duties for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Taking time out from his professional assignment, De Villiers often shares updates about his personal life on social media. In a recent post on Instagram, the former South Africa cricketer was seen speaking about ‘Jugaad’ – a popular Hindi word that means an immediate, flexible approach to resolving any problem in an innovative way. He wrote in the caption, “Learning cool new Hindi words, one India trip at a time.”
The video starts with AB de Villiers sitting in front of his laptop. At that point in time, he was staying at a hotel in Mumbai. As the height of the study table in his room was quite low, the 40-year-old was struggling to operate his laptop while sitting on a chair. That is when he thought of making a ‘Jugaad’ to adjust the screen with his eye level.
To increase the height of his laptop, AB de Villiers took the help of a couple of containers. He placed both vessels on the table and kept the laptop on them. It led De Villiers to continue his work without leaning forward.
After showcasing his type of ‘Jugaad’, AB de Villiers was heard saying in the clip, “I love travelling. I love coming to India. Things won’t always go according to plans. As you can see my setup here, it’s absolutely chaotic. But, I did a little bit of Jugaad.”
The post was able to catch the attention of many fans. One of them asked AB de Villiers who taught him the word ‘Jugaad’. In reply to the comment, the legendary cricketer said, “My team in India did. Basically problem solving. Love the word.”
Another fan reckons “everyone’s setup is certainly like this and everything is jugaad.” In response, AB de Villiers wrote, “As it should be. Life isn’t perfect…so let’s figure out the jugaad.”
Before becoming a commentator, AB de Villiers represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 14 IPL seasons. He has aggregated 5162 runs in his 184 appearances in the tournament.
