Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathiran once again proved why he is one of the dangerous bowling resources in the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp. The youngster with a sling action, fondly known as the Malinga of CSK, nailed a lethal Yorker to decimate Aiden Markram on Sunday night. The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) were chasing a mammoth 213 when Pathirana struck in the 11th over, cleaning up the former Hyderabad skipper to leave the visitors struggling.

It was the 5th delivery of the over when Pathirana bowled a fiery 147kph yorker on the stumps. Markram went for a forceful drive but was beaten by the sheer pace as the ball crashed into the middle stump.

Pathirana returned in the 16th over and got the prized wicket of Heinrich Klaasen with a low full toss. The South African wicketkeeper-batter looked to launch down the ground but couldn’t time it well. Klaasen holed it straight to Daryl Mitchell and walked back with a 21-ball 20.

Earlier, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s valiant knock propelled CSK to 212/3 at Chepauk. Invited to bat, Gaikwad slammed an attractive 98 off 54 balls and was ably supported by Daryl Mitchell, who returned to form with a crucial 32-ball 52 before Shivam Dube’s 20-ball 39 not out took CSK past the 200 mark.
The 107-run stand between Gaikwad and Mitchell was the cornerstone of CSK’s innings as it is their 35th 200-plus total, the most by any side in T20 cricket.
Gaikwad was the star of the CSK batting as he hit 10 fours and three sixes in his innings.
Crowd-favourite MS Dhoni scored five off two deliveries that included a four, while Dube deposited a full toss in the stands as the final four overs yielded 53 runs.
