CSK vs RCB: Chennai Super Kings to Bank on Bengaluru's Poor Track Record at Chepauk
CSK vs RCB: When it comes to head-to-head record, CSK lead by a fair margin, securing 20 victories in 31 encounters. Even at the Chepauk, the Yellow Army excels with the score line 7-1.

Chepauk is all decked up to welcome a new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The cash-rich tournament will get underway with a high-voltage Southern derby, featuring Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, in the season opener on Friday. The first match of the season will begin after a star-studded opening ceremony in which the stars of Bollywood – Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Sonu Nigam and AR Rahman – will perform.

CSK vs RCB: Head-to-Head in IPL

The stakes have always been high whenever these two teams have squared off against each other and given their previous match-ups, CSK have fairly dominated the head-to-head records with 20 victories in 31 encounters. Interestingly, seven of those have come at their home – MA Chidambaram Stadium.

RCB’s record at the Chepauk stadium

CSK have hosted RCB in 8 matches since the inaugural IPL. The Bengaluru-based franchise has secured only one win at the venue, trailing 1-7.

Their only win was in the inaugural edition when RCB scored only 126 runs in 20 overs, riding on a crucial 47-run knock from Rahul Dravid.

Though it looked like an easy deal for the MS Dhoni-led side, Anil Kumble turned the tables with an exceptional bowling performance. The former India spinner fetched a three-wicket haul while giving away only 14 runs in his spell as CSK were folded for 112 for 8.

RCB’s worst record at the Chepauk

Since then, CSK have always been the supreme force when taking on the RCB at Chepauk. The visitors suffered enough humiliation when they travelled to Chennai for the opening match of the IPL 2019. Despite having a star-studded batting line-up, RCB were all-out for 70 runs in 17.4 overs.

CSK’s spin trio of Harbhajan Singh, Ravindra Jadeja and Imran Tahir was mostly responsible for the disaster. They together picked eight of the 10 RCB wickets. CSK were not troubled much during the chase, winning the one-sided affair by seven wickets.

Underwhelming 2023

In the last IPL when CSK and RCB took on each other in Bengaluru, the Yellow Army had the last laugh by registering an eight-run win. Devon Conway was the star of the night for the travelling unit.

Fresh Start in 2024

Led by Faf du Plessis, RCB will look to break the jinx at Chepauk this year. This season won’t be the same for CSK as they will be led by a new captain. In a shocking announcement on Thursday, the five-time champions named Ruturaj Gaikwad as the skipper for this edition, replacing the legendary MS Dhoni. CSK fans, however, have warmly accepted the shift of leadership, considering the future of the team.
