Hanuma Vihari Backs Out Again, Says No to MPCA Move
This is the second year that Hanuma Vihari, after initially expressing his desire to play for MP, has backed out at the last minute.

Hanuma Vihari will not move to Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association for the upcoming domestic season and the India cricketer informed has about his decision to head coach Chandrakant Pandit this morning.

“He has backed out. I got a message this morning that he will not be playing for us. It’s unfortunate but we can’t help it,” says Pandit.

It’s been more than two weeks since Vihari got a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) which he didn’t submit to MPCA. MPCA office bearers kept waiting for the paperwork to complete all formalities but it never came their way. Coach Pandit too tried establishing contact with Vihari for the last 4-5 days but the right-hander only called back last evening.

“I have been trying to speak to him for the last 5-6 days but wasn’t able to talk. I then dropped him a message and he called back last evening and said he would update me. This morning I got a message from him that he will not be able to play for us,” adds Pandit.

As reported by CricketNext earlier, MP were considering Vihari for the leadership role but his last-moment back out hasn’t gone down well with the officials. Especially because it has happened for two consecutive years and it was Vihari who had reached out to Pandit after his rift with Andhra Cricket Association officials during the 2023-24 season. Vihari had tweeted about getting NOC after a long delay but neither the tweet nor the NOC is available on his timeline.

“It has happened for two consecutive years now and it’s very unfortunate. Everyone in the association was prepared to have him but the last moment back out, again, isn’t good,” says Pandit.

Vihari didn’t respond to CricketNext’s messages and had earlier refused to comment on the developments. It is not clear at this stage whether Vihari stays back at Andhra but those close to developments feel the political developments in the region could have forced the batter to change his mind.

“Not entirely sure what is going in his mind but he could well stay back at Andhra after recent political developments. If he has deleted his NOC means he is staying back at Andhra only,” says a source tracking developments.
