Mumbai Indians batting fired on all cylinders against Royal Challengers Bengaluru during their IPL 2024 clash on Thursday and drew praise from the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
Tendulkar acknowledged how Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma blazed away in the Powerplay which reduced MI’s asking rate in chase of 197 from 9.85 to 8.9 per over.
The MI opening duo led a rollicking start adding 72 runs in the first six overs. Ishan dominated the stand with a blistering half-century.
“@ImRo45 and @ishankishan51’s fearless batting during the powerplay overs effectively reduced the required run rate,” Tendulkar wrote on X.
The opening stand ended with the dismissal of Ishan in the ninth over. However, boundaries continued to flow for the hosts with Suryakumar Yadav bouncing back to score a rapid fifty of his own.

By the time Suryakumar was dismissed, MI had reached 176 in 13.3 overs.
“It was good to see @surya_14kumar hitting the ball so sweetly after his injury layoff. Lovely to have him back in the team, playing in top gear,” Tendulkar wrote.
The ‘icing on the cake’ for Tendulkar though was MI captain Hardik Pandya’s finishing touch as he clattered three sixes in an inbeaten six-ball 21.
“@hardikpandya7 finishing the game off in style was the icing on the cake,” Tendulkar, an MI icon, signed off.
The win was MI’s second of IPL 2024 after they suffered defeats in their first three games of the season. The five-time champions were brilliant with the bat but that they were left chasing a total under 200 was largely thanks to a superb spell of fast bowling from Jasprit Bumrah who took a five-wicket haul.
Bumrah’s haul included the key wickets of RCB superstar Virat Kohli and captain Faf du Plessis as he finished with 5/21 from four overs. For his performance on a flat pitch. the 30-year-old won player-of-the-match award.
