Mubashshir Usmani pips Imran Khwaja to become new Chair of Associate Members; Pankaj Khimji fails hold on to his spot.

The results of Associate Member Directors election are out and the International Cricket Council (ICC) board will feature two fresh faces for the next two years. UAE’s Mubashshir Usmani got the most votes (23) and is now set to become the new Chair of Associate Members.

The position was earlier held by Imran Khwaja but the veteran administrator received 20 votes to hold on to his spot on the board but failed to hold on to the chair. Mahinda Vallipuram also makes a return to the board as he beat Pankaj Khimji by two votes. While Vallipuram got 13 votes, Khimji could manage only 11.

ICC Annual Conference is off to an interesting start with the Associate Member Directors election throwing some surprises. Neil Speight (12 votes) of Bermuda and Khimji of Oman will make way for Usmani and Vallipuram on the global cricket body’s all-powerful board.
