Selectors sweat over bowling unit

If the ongoing IPL is the basis to select the squad then the selectors and team management must be fretting over building a pace battery for the World Cup While Jasprit Bumrah is functioning in a different dimension altogether, the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh have failed to impress with the ball. Though both of them have been conceding runs over 9, the latter has more wickets in the league.

“The team management wants to trust the players it has groomed. There are concerns about Siraj and Arshdeep going for so many runs but one has to look at the context,” a source was quoted as saying by the TOI.

“Jasprit Bumrah is a different class. The others should not be compared with him. There won’t be an ‘impact player’ rule in the World Cup. Axar Patel, for example, has been exemplary with his economy rate,” it added.

Fight for the second wicketkeeper

The report further suggested that selectors are mulling over the likes of Sanju Samson and KL Rahul for the spot of the second wicketkeeper as Rishabh Pant seems to be the first choice. If Gill misses out then Rahul shall peep Samson and get the nod even though the latter is having a fantastic season in the IPL 2024.
