IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant Nearing One-match Ban as BCCI Fine DC Skipper Again for Maintaining Slow Over Rate
IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant Nearing One-match Ban as BCCI Fine DC Skipper Again for Maintaining Slow Over Rate
Rishabh Pant is now on the verge of facing a one-match ban as the DC skipper has been fined for the second time this season for maintaining a slow over-rate.

The woes continue to pile on the Delhi Capitals skipper, Rishabh Pant who despite scoring a class half-century was unable to get the win as they suffered their second loss of the season. They were beaten by the Kolkata Knight Riders by a whopping margin of 106 runs at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Following the entertaining fixture, the BCCI also announced that the DC skipper had breached the Code of Conduct during the game as he maintained a slow over-rate which led to him being fined INR 24 Lakhs.

This is the second instance Pant has been fined for the same offence with his previous one coming against the Chennai Super Kings at Vizag as well.

With this being the second offence of the season, the rest of the members of the Playing XI including the Impact Player were also individually fined INR 6 Lakhs or 25 per cent of the match fees (whichever is lesser).

The more concerning point to note will be that one more offence of slow over-rate will mean a one-match ban which could prove to be detrimental as DC look to redeem itself.

This will just be an additional aspect the side will have to focus on as they are now ninth on the points table having just one win in the season which came against CSK in their previous fixture.

Pant’s side will be disappointed with their recent bowling performance against KKR as they conceded a total of 272 runs to help the opposition set the second-highest target in IPL history.

Despite the massive score on the board, Delhi were not able to bring out their fearless approach as their top-order crumbled cheaply. But Pant was able to play a valiant knock which ended with the skipper having scored 55 off 25 deliveries and also setting a decent partnership with Tristan Stubbs in the middle.

There will be room for a lot of improvement, especially within the bowling unit and the side will hope they can rely on their ace spinner, Kuldeep Yadav once again as the spinner has missed out on the previous two games due to a niggle.

The Capitals will look forward to their next game which is an away fixture against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 7.
