RR vs RCB, IPL 2024 Eliminator: 'Ee Sala Cup Namde' Remains a Distant Dream as Royal Challengers Bengaluru Knocked Out
While Bengaluru return home after a 4-wicket loss, the Royals will fly to Chennai where they face a battered and bruised Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 on Friday at Chepauk.

‘Ee Saala Cup Naamde’ remains an unfulfilled dream for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after Rajasthan Royals (RR) put a break to their 6-match winless streak in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Chasing 172 at Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday, Sanju Samson & Co registered a 4-wicket in the Eliminator to knock RCB out of the tournament. While Bengaluru head back home, the Royals will fly to Chennai where they face a battered and bruised Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Qualifier 2 on Friday at Chepauk.

IPL 2024: Rajasthan Royals vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru – HIGHLIGHTS

RR’s perfect start

Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Yashasvi Jaiswal set the tone for RR in the tricky chase of 173. Unlike RCB’s nervy start, it was raining boundaries at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Rajasthan’s left-right opening combo choked the Bengaluru pacers and a couple of dropped chances off Yash Dayal’s bowling added to their woes. But Lockie Ferguson’s timely entry broke the 46-run stand as the Kiwi pacer’s slower Yorker castled Cadmore for 20 off 15.

Karthik’s Brilliance beats Sanju, Jaiswal

Dinesh Karthik’s presence of mind and lightning-fast glovework caused some severe damage to the Royals. Convincing Faf for a DRS call in the 10th over was spontaneous from Karthik as it forced the on-field umpire to overturn his decision. Jaiswal had shuffled away to ramp Cameron Green’s length ball but missed it. Spikes on the UltraEdge confirmed that the ball had brushed his gloves before Karthik pouched it.

A few deliveries later, the veteran keeper helped Karn Sharma dismiss Sanju Samson. The Royals skipper had danced down the track early, allowing Sharma to spin the ball away from the stump while Karthik turned it into an easy stumping opportunity.

Hetmyer, Parag partnership changed the plot

With pressure mounting up, the Royals wanted another solid partnership and that was when Riyan Parag got the much-needed company of comeback man Shimron Hetmyer. They found a passage to attack Green and Dayal, collecting 28 runs in their two overs. Though Siraj sent both the set batters packing in the same over, it was too late by then for the RCB to save the game.

With run-a-ball 12 needed to win, Rovman Powell smashed a couple of boundaries and a six to Lockie Ferguson in the 19th over to ensure RCB’s farewell from IPL 2024.

Boult, you beauty!

After Starc’s supremacy in the Qualifier, it was Trent Boult’s turn to leave a mark on Ahmedabad’s spicy track. No wonder he briefly kept the RCB openers quiet before scalping the priced wicket of Faf du Plessis in the Powerplay. Though Bengaluru garnered 50 runs in the first 6 overs, Boult’s figures – 1/8 in 3 overs – scripted a troubled start for RCB.

Chahal tricks Kohli, Ashwin gets the Aussies

The Royals deployed their spin attack from both ends after the Powerplay, letting Yuzvendra Chahal catch the big fish. The wrist-spinner dangled the carrot and Virat Kohli fell for it. A flighted leg-break, Kohli slog-swept but holed out to substitute fielder Donovan Ferreira at deep midwicket. The former RCB skipper was back in the hut after scoring 33 off 24, leaving the fans heartbroken.

Kohli’s dismissal seemed to be leaving RCB in a trauma. Before they could pull off something to get over it, Ashwin’s double attack in the 13th over shook them to the core. He cut short Cameron Green’s outing, aided by Powell’s acrobatic act, before dismissing Maxwell for a golden duck. On both occasions, the carom ball was the hero.

Patidar’s flop show

Responsibilities kept on stacking up on Rajat Patidar’s shoulders as he ran out of partners. After getting dropped by Jurel for 5 off Ashwin’s bowling, it appeared to be a big knock loading. He showed his intent right, hammering Chahal for a cracking six over mid-off and then pulled Avesh Khan’s slower bouncer over fine leg for another maximum. Patidar decided to go hard on Avesh but the RR pacer persisted with his slow speed, ultimately luring the RCB star to play a mistimed shot with a flat bat and get caught by Riyan Parag inside the circle.

DRS blunders spark controversy

Another game, another technical flaw and either side making merry. The first innings saw Dinesh Karthik surviving an LBW DRS call as third umpire Anil Chaudhary erroneously overturned a correct on-field decision. Replays showed a spike on UltraEdge when the ball moved past the bat. It seemed like the bat had hit the pad but the TV umpire was convinced otherwise, asking his colleague on the field to overturn his decision. The incident left the RR camp fuming and sparked a massive social media uproar.
