Punjab Kings’ Shashank Singh took the IPL by storm with a blistering fifty against the Gujarat Titans to give his side the win by three wickets. However, it has not been an easy ride for the all-rounder as revealed by former Indian cricketer, Robin Uthappa.
Shashank has struggled to find a consistent run, especially in the IPL. He began his career in the tournament with the now-defunct franchise, Delhi Daredevils, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad and now his new home the Punjab Kings.
Speaking with JioCinema, Uthappa who is present as an expert revealed that he had seen Shashank when he was much younger in the Pune Warriors setup in 2011. He said,” “Shashank is someone who’s been around the block. He was with me in Pune Warriors in 2011 and then quietly did his time in the IPL. He never really got an opportunity. He’s a quiet kid and someone who quietly works in the background, soft-spoken, and an absolute gentleman”.

He has also struggled to find a permanent setup in the first-class format as well. He did not get many chances with Mumbai following which he moved to Puducherry and now he is with Chattisgarh. Uthappa added, “He tried to ply his trade in Mumbai but didn’t get much of an opportunity because he’s not a boisterous kind of youngster. He went to Puducherry, didn’t work out there, and moved to Chhattisgarh. He’s been around the block, bided his time, and got his due”.

The former CSK man expressed his pleasure in seeing Shashank get some well-deserved credit after struggling to make it on the big stage. He added, “It’s heartwarming to see guys like that doing their time in the circuit and getting their due on a stage like this. It’s truly heartwarming. I believe nice guys do get their time under the sun”.

Shashank sure did manage to impress everyone with his brilliant knock against GT who have had a reputation of being fairly dominant at home. Despite the likes of Rashid Khan and others having a go at the batter, he stood strong and scored a crucial half-century which gave PBKS the crucial win.
