It is yet another milestone for Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma as the opening batter is set to make his 200th appearance for MI in their second fixture of the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) where they take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Rohit has come a long way since making the move in 2011 from the now-defunct franchise, Deccan Chargers. He is MI’s leading run-scorer with 5084 runs which is well ahead of the next highest, Kieron Pollard with 3915 runs.

He also came in and led the side in 2013 towards their golden period, winning five titles in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020 respectively.
The Hitman’s milestone with the franchise was commemorated by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar who presented Rohit with a special jersey to mark the momentous occasion.
He becomes the first played for the franchise to rack up 200 appearances and the only player to have represented the team on 14 different seasons.

His best knock for the side came in 2012 when he scored an unbeaten 109 off 60 deliveries against the Kolkata Knight Riders where he overcame the slow turning tracks at the Eden to help the side secure the win.
Another interesting fact is that Rohit has won 16 Player of the Match awards for Mumbai Indians, the most by any MI player.
Additionally, Rohit has featured in 111 wins for Mumbai Indians, the most by any player for the franchise. He has also been the captain in 87 of those wins, again a record for the franchise.
In the current season, he has gotten off to a good start having scored 43 off 29 balls to help his side set the tone while chasing against the Gujarat Titans in the opening clash. Despite not getting the win, MI will be optimistic about the form of the veteran batter as they aim to go for gold once again.
The Indian skipper will be eyeing a big season with the bat as he looks to deliver in the biggest franchise cricket tournament and look to deliver in national colours as India travel to the West Indies and the United States of America for the T20 World Cup in June.
