KL Rahul has been a vital cog for Team India in the longest format. He scored a brilliant century in the first Test of the South Africa tour in December last year.

The star batter replicated his form in the opening Test against England in Hyderabad last month. He registered 86 runs off 123 deliveries during India’s first innings of that fixture. His knock comprised eight boundaries and two sixes. Rahul, however, looked quite pale in the next innings where the entire Indian batting line-up collapsed. He was one of the few batters who could breach the 20-run mark as English debutant Tom Hartley stole the show with a seven-wicket haul. India lost the first Test by 28 runs.

Rahul complained of pain in his right quadriceps and went to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to undergo rehabilitation. Rahul sat out of the following Test in Vizag. Despite missing big names like Virat Kohli, Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, India succeeded in claiming a convincing 106-run win in the second Test to level the five-match series 1-1.

Rahul is now expected to find a place in the Indian middle order in the third Test. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to announce the Team India squad for the remainder of the Test series against England today.
