The IPL 2024 got underway with title holders Chennai Super Kings producing a clinical show to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets at Chepauk. The contest saw the return of legendary MS Dhoni and batting superstar Virat Kohli.
There were several memorable moments from the clash but one in particular has polarised the fans on social media. IPL debutant Rachin Ravindra introduced himself to the CSK fans with a sizzling 15-ball 37 after opening the innings and he was given quite a send-off by RCB’s Kohli after being dismissed in the seventh over.

Kohli didn’t hold back as gave Ravindra an earful while gesturing him to head back to the CSK dressing room after the allrounder was caught by Rajat Patidar at square leg region off the bowling of Karn Sharma.
Interestingly, it was Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra who combined earlier in the contest to take the catch of Kohli as he became Mustafizur Rahman’s third victim.
Kohli tried clearing the midwicket boundary with a pull shot but didn’t generate enough power as Rahane took a diving catch. Having realised he was sliding towards the boundary, Rahane lobbed the ball to Ravindra who completed the relay catch sending Kohli back to the RCB dug-out on 21.
RCB made a quick start after opting to bat first on the opening day of IPL 2024 courtesy their captain Faf du Plessis who fell for an impressive 23-ball 35. His wicket though triggered a slide with Rahman taking two wickets in an over.
From 41/1, RCB slipped to 78/5 before Anuj Rawat (48 off 25) and Dinesh Karthik (38* off 26) dragged them to a competitive total of 173/6.
CSK would lose their new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad for a run-a-ball 15 but their top-order batters made small but useful contributions to set up a facile six-wicket win. The defending champions chased down the target in 18.4 overs.
