The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) announced the Class 12th result of the 2023-24 batch on May 8. Ninety percent of the 7.5 lakh students who took the exams passed class 12 boards. Pitambar, the son of a labourer, secured ninth rank in the exam by fighting against extreme odds. Pitambar Barman is the son of a migrant labourer working in Nepal. The young student had to fight against all the financial odds of his family to achieve this huge accomplishment. A resident of Uttar (North) Dinajpur, his success has brought pride and glory to his parents in the community. He passed the exams by studying in a makeshift house made of tin.
Makeshift houses are barely durable and come with their own share of challenges. During the monsoon season, water used to lead through the tin roof and flood the room. While Pitambar’s father, Uttam Burman worked in Nepal as a mason, his mother, Tarulata Barman worked as a daily labourer to make ends meet. Despite the many struggles and painstaking challenges, the young boy from Kaliaganj in Uttar Dinajpur of West Bengal. He secured the ninth position in the state with 97 percent marks.
After this huge achievement, Pitambar Barman aspires to become an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer in the future. He is a student at Tarangapur NK High School in Kaliaganj. He pursued the Arts stream after Class 10 and scored 488 marks out of 500. After the results were declared, Tarulata Barma had tears of happiness in her eyes seeing her son’s hard work paying off.
In an interview with Local18, Pitambar Barman revealed that his parents work day and night to be able to pay for his education. With his successful results, it is proof that their hard work ultimately paid off. The family and the community are quite happy with his marks and wish him the best for his future endeavours.
