The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has decided to increase the vacancies three times in the Assistant Loco Pilot Recruitment. Earlier the vacancy was 5,696, but now it has increased to 18,799 positions.
The vacancies have been revised for all zonal railways and the maximum increase is seen for South East Central Railway. While there is no update on the vacancies for the East Central Railway.
“Railway Recruitment Board has published CEN 01/2024 for the recruitment of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) with 5,696 vacancies all over the Indian Railways. A review has been undertaken given additional demand received from Zonal Railways and vacancies of Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) stands enhanced to 18,799,” read the official notice.
After increasing the vacancies, the Railway Recruitment Board has also directed all RRBs to provide an opportunity to revise choices. This means that now candidates will be able to change their preferences in their forms.
“Necessary notice indicating RRB-wise community-wise breakup of vacancies shall be displayed on the website subsequently. Opportunities will also be given to existing candidates to revise their choice of RRB once details are published. Candidates should keep visiting the website for further notices in this regard,” it further added.

This significant increase will take place across all 16 Railway Recruitment Board zones. In the central railway, the earlier vacancy was 535; now it increased to 1786; in the eastern railway, it changed to 1382 from 415; in the northern railway, it was 150; and now the increased vacancy is 499; and in the southern railway, it changed to 726 from 218.
Railway’s Assistant Loco Pilot Recruitment Exam is expected to be held between June and August. There will be four stages in the selection process, which include a computer-based test, CBT-2, computer-based aptitude test and document verification. There will be negative markings in both CBT-1 and CBT-2. One-third of marks will be deducted for every wrong answer, while there will be no negative marking in the aptitude test.
