UPSC Civil Service Prelims Exam 2024 Postponed Due to General Elections

The Union Public Service Commission, UPSC has postponed the civil service preliminary exam 2024 due to the general elections. The exam which was scheduled to be held on May 26 has been deferred to June 16. Candidates who have applied for the exam can check the official notice on the website at upsc.gov.in. Meanwhile, the general election for the 18th Lok Sabha will commence on April 19.

“Due to the schedule of the impending General Election, the Commission has decided to postpone the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination – 2024 which also serves as screening test for Indian Forest Service Examination, 2024 from 26-05- 2024 to 16-06-2024,” reads the official notice.

Through the recruitment drive, the commission aims to fill around 1056 vacancies. This includes 40 vacancies reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability Category — 6 vacancies for candidates of blindness and low vision; 12 vacancies for deaf and hard of hearing; 9 vacancies for locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, and muscular dystrophy; and 13 vacancies for multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness.

Step 2. Look for the UPSC CSE 2024 notification link on the homepage.

Step 3. Click on the link. A PDF file containing the prelim exam revised date will be displayed on the screen.

Step 4. Download and save the page for further use.

The UPSC Civil Service Examination (CSE) 2024 official notification was issued on February 14. To be eligible to apply for the UPSC exam, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or have an equivalent qualification. They must also be between 21 and 32 years of age.

The prelims consist of objective types of questions. As per the exam pattern, the UPSC Prelims Paper 1 focuses on General Studies 1 for which aspirants need to cover a diverse range of topics, including national and international relations, the history of India, the Indian National Movement, India’s social geography, politics, and governance encompassing the constitution, political system and public policy, economic and social development touching upon sustainable development, poverty and environmental studies covering biodiversity and climate change, in addition to general science.
