Varanasi Schools To Remain Closed On Mondays During Sawan
Given the Sawan month, a no-vehicle zone has been set in Varanasi.

Just like the previous years, schools will remain closed every Monday of the Sawan month and will be operational on Sundays. From July 22, Sawan month will begin and Lord Shiva devotees from across the country will embark on their journey to offer Holy water to the shrine of Lord Shiva. As the Kanwad Yatra will take place and to make it convenient for Kanvarias, there will be no vehicle zone from Maidagin to Godowlia in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Due to the ban on vehicles on many routes, the administration has now decided to close schools on Mondays and instead keep them operational on Sundays.

Given the Sawan month, a no-vehicle zone has been set in Varanasi. There will be route diversions in many other areas of Varanasi due to possible traffic congestion. The administration has decided to keep schools closed every Monday and will be functional on Sundays. This decision was taken by keeping in mind the problems faced by school children who commute in autos, vans and buses. The Purvanchal School Welfare Association’s President, Rahul Singh announced on Saturday that the number of devotees visiting Kashi Vishwanath Dham is increasing every year. This year will be no different as well. To manage traffic without much hassle, schools will be operational on Sundays instead of Mondays. Even parents considered the decision to be fair.

In a no-vehicle zone, it will be difficult for parents to reach the schools of their children to pick them up in private vehicles if buses and vans are not allowed. Hence, to make the commute of children comfortable during this time, this decision has been taken. This year, devotees will get five Mondays in the entire Sawan month to worship Lord Shiva and observe fast during this auspicious time.

During Sawan, from Maidagin to Ramapura via Godowlia in Varanasi will be a no-vehicle zone from 10 pm every Sunday to midnight on Monday. Civilians will be allowed to travel only on foot. Wheelchair and golf-cart facilities will be offered for elderly and sick devotees. Similar rules have been imposed towards Dashashwamedh Ghat from Girija Ghat intersection.
