In an effort to address ongoing issues within the National Testing Agency (NTA), the government is calling for creative ideas and recommendations from individuals to improve the NTA examination process. The public has been encouraged to submit suggestions on the MyGov India website, starting June 27, 2024 till July 7, 2024.
The government has constituted a high-level committee under the chairmanship of Dr K Radhakrishnan, former ISRO chairman and Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIT-Kanpur. The committee includes members from government organizations, academia, and higher educational institutions, and is tasked with providing recommendations on the following aspects:
- Reforms in the mechanism of the examination process
- Improvement in data security protocols
- Structure and functioning of the NTA
The initiative comes in response to recent controversies involving the NTA and alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG examinations. The Ministry of Education has stated that the committee is seeking suggestions, views, and ideas from various stakeholders, particularly students and parents.
Individuals wishing to submit their ideas should visit the MyGov India website, log in, and provide personal details such as name, mobile number, email ID, state/UT, district, and category (student, parent/guardian, teacher/academic, expert-technology/data security, others), before adding their suggestions.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring transparent, smooth, and fair examinations. “Setting up the high-level committee of experts is the first of a series of steps to improve the efficiency of the examination process, put an end to all possible malpractices, strengthen data security protocols, and overhaul and reform the NTA. Student interests and their bright future will always be our government’s top priority,” he stated.
The seven-member panel, chaired by Dr K Radhakrishnan, includes:
- Govind Jaiswal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Education (Member-Secretary)
- Dr Randeep Guleria, Former Director, AIIMS Delhi
- Prof BJ Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Central University of Hyderabad
- Prof Ramamurthy K, Professor Emeritus, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Madras
- Pankaj Bansal, Co-Founder, People Strong and Board Member, Karmayogi Bharat
- Prof Aditya Mittal, Dean of Student Affairs, IIT Delhi
The committee has been directed to submit its report within two months and is also free to co-opt any subject matter expert for assistance. This move is part of the government’s broader efforts to ensure the integrity and efficiency of national examinations.
