Kolkata: Bangaldeshi national team captain Mohammed Mamunul Islam was signed on Saturday by the city ISL franchise Atletico de Kolkata in Dhaka.
The central midfielder also leads Bangladesh Premier League champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and had led the team to IFA Shields final last season.
Terming this an important milestone, the 25-year-old said: "The team will transgress boundaries and bring both sides of Bengal closer."
"This is like a dream come true for me. It's a privilege to be part of our Dada's (former India captain Sourav Ganguly) team," an excited Mamunul added.
Mamunul, who will also represent the nation in the upcoming Asian Games, Incheon, is expected to join Atletico de Kolkata after the quadriennial event.
The Bangaldeshi captain was signed on Saturday at a formal ceremony in Dhaka which was also attended by president of the country's football afederation Kazi Salahuddin.
The team are currently training at the Los Angeles De San Rafael training ground in Segovia, Spain, the main facility of their Spanish partners Atletico Madrid.
