Blackpool: Blackpool came from behind to beat Liverpool 2-1 on Wednesday, its second win over the team this season and souring manager Kenny Dalglish's first match back in the Premier League.
Liverpool forward Fernando Torres scored in the third minute, but Gary Taylor-Fletcher and D.J. Campbell found the net for Blackpool to extend the visitors' miserable away league record to only two wins in almost 13 months.
The loss leaves Liverpool four points above the relegation zone. Blackpool, back in the top flight after a 39-year absence, is three points ahead of the Dalglish's side.
"You can see the effort and desire is there," Dalglish told the BBC. "But sometimes it doesn't matter how good the player is, he may not have the belief. We'll work hard on giving the side belief and confidence."
The 59-year-old Scot was hired on Saturday after Roy Hodgson was fired, returning to the job he left in 1991. Back then, Blackpool was in the fourth tier while Liverpool had won its 18th English league title a year earlier.
One of Dalglish's priorities is to help Torres get back to his best, with the Spaniard struggling to find his scoring touch this season.
It appeared that the transformation had worked early on, with Torres hitting just his seventh goal of the season. It came from one of the manager's tactical decisions, Dalglish keeping faith with rookie right back Martin Kelly despite Glen Johnson returning.
Dirk Kuyt passed the ball out to the defender he advanced over the halfway line, before Kelly rolled a pass into the penalty area. From a tight angle, Torres forced a powerful shot into the roof of the net.
But the lead didn't last long. Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles carelessly gave the ball away in midfield to David Vaughan, whose pass allowed Taylor-Fletcher to run through the defense before rolling a shot under goalkeeper Pepe Reina.
All the Blackpool players ran to the touchline to hold up a T-shirt with the phrase "4 Butch you Bluenose RIP" — a reference to Macclesfield player Richard Butcher, who died suddenly this week.
Blackpool had the better chances in the remainder of the half, with Campbell heading wide from close range and Taylor-Fletcher almost catching out Reina with a lob from the right wing after the Spaniard had messed up his goal kick.
The home side stepped up the pressure after the break. Charlie Adam's left-footed shot was stopped by Reina, who then tipped over Vaughan's shot.
Liverpool almost produced an eye-catching response when Torres volleyed over at the far post from Milan Jovanovic's cross. Torres also forced a low save from Kingson from outside the area.
Meireles cut in from the right to hit a left-footed shot wide, while Kuyt's low shot forced Kingson to save.
With 21 minutes remaining, Blackpool hit the winner. Ian Evatt beat Martin Skrtel to Neal Eardley's deep cross, and Campbell headed home.
