ROME:Inter striker Diego Milito has been forced out of the Nerazzurri's clash with Bayern Munich in the Champions League after picking up a thigh injury.
The 31-year-old played a pivotal role throughout the tournament last season for Inter as they claimed the treble, scoring two goals in the final against the German powerhouse.
Milito suffered a thigh injury at the tail end of the Nerazzurri's 5-3 win over Roma on Sunday and it was diagnosed on Monday as a "second degree strain to the biceps femoris of the thigh" according to club doctor Franco Combi.
The knock is likely to keep the Argentine on the sidelines for approximately a month meaning that he will certainly miss the first-leg against the German side on February 23.
The news is a big blow for Inter as new signing Giampaolo Pazzini is cup tied having already played in the qualifying round for Sampdoria earlier this season.
"Diego has to feel comfortable and not think about what has happened," said Inter boss Leonardo.
"He does not have to prove anything to anyone and knows he is an important player for Inter. He must relax and recover to his best."
The former Genoa man has not reached the heights of last season, having scored five goals in 16 Serie A games in 2010-11.
