Andre Villas-Boas is not planning a lot of activity at Chelsea in the January transfer window.

London: Andre Villas-Boas insists that Chelsea are trying to ensure that goalkeeper Petr Cech remains at the club.

The Czech Republic international has 18 months left on his current contract, and there has been some speculation concerning his future.

But the Portuguese boss has hit back at any talk of the 29-year-old leaving Stamford Bridge, telling reporters: "There are false stories about Petr Cech leaving the club. We are trying to reach an agreement with Petr. He knows that we are trying to reach an agreement with him and that we are interested in renewing his contract."

Meanwhile, young shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois - who is currently on loan to Atletico Madrid - has been tipped to give Cech some serious competition in the future.

"Regarding Courtois, we have to make a decision," said Villas-Boas. "We won't recall him in January, for sure. At the end of the season, we have to decide."

Meanwhile, the manager says Chelsea will not make bids for Gary Cahill or Luka Modric in the January transfer window.

The window will reopen in three weeks time but the Blues' manager has expressed his satisfaction with his current squad despite links to a number of players.

One of those names linked to the club is England international Gary Cahill, whose contract at the Reebok stadium expires next summer. The 25-year-old was strongly linked to Arsenal and Tottenham in the previous transfer window, but Villas-Boas has dismissed new rumours linking him with Stamford Bridge.

"He's a fantastic player because he plays for the English national team, a central defender of high qualities,” he told Sky Sports. "He had a fantastic year last season for club and country. But he is not a player that we are considering."

Another player ruled out by the 34-year-old is Tottenham’s midfield playmaker Luka Modric, who was the subject of several bids from the Blues during the summer.

"We have [Michael] Essien returning and I think we have left that one for sure," he said

Chelsea have also been linked to a move for Porto wingback Alvaro Pereira, who Villas-Boas managed at Porto.

It is believed that the Portuguese side rejected a bid for the 26-year-old Uruguayan from Chelsea in the summer, but the manager claims that he is happy with the players at his disposal.

He added: "I don't think so, based on prices, and because we are not looking. We are pretty satisfied with what we've got."
