Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted being heartbroken by Oscar Bobb’s injury. Addressing the team’s upcoming star’s injury, Guardiola talked about how he was devastated to see the 21-year-old out of action right before the new season.
Speaking in a recent press conference, Guardiola said, “We are so sad for him [Oscar Bobb], but not because he was making an incredible pre-season, because that doesn’t matter, when [the] injury is a long time it is a problem and we’re looking forward to seeing him again as soon as possible. A good recovery as quick as possible and that’s all,” Guardiola said, as per multiple outlets.
Guardiola also revealed that Bobb suffered the injury during a club training session. He said, “It was in the training session and unfortunately he had a big impact and is injured. He will have surgery and hopefully, he will be well and we welcome him back as soon as possible in three, four months.”
To deal with the setback, the Norweigan international departed for Barcelona. It is being learnt that Bobb will likely miss the first three or four months of the new season.
Bobb arrived at Manchester City from Valerenga in 2019. He rose through the ranks before making his Premier League debut against Fulham in September last year. His injury will likely prove to be a big blow for Manchester City. Bobb had an impressive pre-season where he scored two goals and registered three assists across four friendly matches in America. He even secured a Player of the Match performance against Manchester United. Bobb’s performance also earned him praise from English football icon Ian Wright.
With Bobb injured and Julian Alvarez leaving for Atletico Madrid, Manchester City will now have to look for alternatives for their attacking lineup in the new campaign. They will be aiming to win a fifth successive Premier League title this time.
Manchester City will begin their Premier League title defence against Chelsea on August 18 at Stamford Bridge. While big names like Erling Haaland, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne are expected to feature in London, midfielder Rodri seems unlikely to take part in the game against Chelsea.
