As the English Premier League gears up for yet another riveting season of football for the 33rd edition. This year will see some new faces to who will take on the English test to get their respective clubs to the best possible finish by the end of the season.
For the 2024/25 season, five individuals will be beginning their managerial stints for their respective clubs as they take on some of the finest teams England has to offer. Some will be looking to go right at the very top while others will hope to be in the mid-table battle while others will be aiming for a spot in the European Cup competition in the next season.
Let us take a look at the 5 new managers who will make their first appearance for their new club in the 2024/25 season of the Premier League.
Leicester City – Steve Cooper
After the departure of Enzo Maresca, Leicester City made an interesting choice of appointing Steve Cooper as their manager for their first season back in the Premier League. But the move to appoint the Welshman is a stark contrast compared to what the fans have been used to seeing the previous year. While Maresca opts to play the possession-based style, Cooper employs a more quick and direct approach which you usually associate with the mid-table or bottom-placed sides. However, the move to deploy the Welshman might be what just keeps them in the English top flight as they would be the underdogs as opposed to being the top dogs in the Championship, last year. And a more pragmatic approach might just be the need for the hour to keep the club in the Premier League once again.
Brighton – Fabian Hurzeler
The footballing world will certainly be intrigued by Brighton’s new manager, Fabian Hurzeler who is now the youngest coach in Premier League’s history. At just 31 years of age, he now finds himself in the English top-flight division where he will go up against some of the top clubs in the world. However, Brighton shares a history of finding some talented coaches and players and the odds could be in favour of the German succeeding during his time with the Seagulls. The new manager will be expected to play a high line when in possession and use positional overloads to gain a numerical advantage as well. But it will also be interesting to see how he adapts to cope with the demands of the Premier League as well.
Chelsea – Enzo Maresca
With the new ownership onboard, Chelsea has struggled to maintain their competitiveness amongst the best clubs in England. Hoping this would be changed, they have brought in Enzo Maresca who has spent a lot of time within the Manchester City camp as the head of the Elite Developmental Squad and also being the assistant manager of Pep Guardiola. In the previous season, Maresca guided Leicester City back to the Premier League. Like Guardiola, the Italian also emphasises positional play to gain a strategic advantage. But the real test for Maresca would be to deal with the inflated squad comprising over 40 players. With enough talent on board, it will be on the new manager to ensure that he can bring an identity to the club which would then set the template for the future.
Liverpool – Arne Slot
After 9 years of Jurgen Klopp with Liverpool, the Merseysiders will embark on a new journey as the club has appointed the Dutchman, Arne Slot to take over as the head coach. From Klopp’s heavy-metal brand of football, Slot also has a very attacking-minded style of play which could be ideal for the club in the long run. However, Liverpool has not exactly helped themselves in terms of transfers as they have yet to make a signing. Nonetheless, the club still have a relatively decent squad on deck and the season could be used to assess who will continue in this new era. But it would be a disappointment if the club are not able to secure a top-four finish which could put the new man under massive pressure.
West Ham – Julen Lopetegui
After a year out of football management, Julen Lopetegui will make his return to England where he will now manage the London-based club, West Ham United. The Hammers have been a regular in European competitions after their infamous Conference League title in 2023, but have struggled to keep up with balancing their results across all competitions. Lopetegui could prove to be the perfect man for the job as he has done fairly well during his stint with the Spanish club, Sevilla, leading them to the Europa League title in 2020, while also making the side fairly competitive in the domestic race as well. With the club’s hierarchy showing ambition of taking the Irons to bigger heights, matched with Lopetegui’s quality of management, this could prove to be a massive deal for the club, providing the manager can bring in his philosophies and culture with the club.
