'The Blue Billion-Pound Bottlejobs': Gary Neville Rips Into Chelsea During EFL Cup Final vs Liverpool

The blues seem to always follow the London Blues as Chelsea once again fell flat at the ultimate stage, squandering the EFL Cup to rivals Liverpool, credit to a last-minute winner from the Reds’ captain Virgil Van Dijk.

The occasion marks the seventh major title for Liverpool under soon-to-leave manager Jurgen Klopp. For the Blues, their loss last night is yet another addition to their list of consecutive domestic cup final losses, with the recent one becoming their sixth consecutive loss.

So in place of the absentees, Conor Bradley and Harvey Elliott started the game for Liverpool, before Bobby Clark (19), James McConnell (19), Jayden Danns (18) and Jarell Quansah (21) were introduced from the bench.

In fact, Liverpool had the most teenagers in a League Cup final since Arsenal in 2007, and yet somehow managed to nullify Chelsea’s first-team and seal the deal ultimately.

The Blues’ dismal showing left fans and commentators alike fuming, including the likes of former Manchester United man, Gary Neville.

Neville, who was on commentary for Sky Sports, did not hold back from letting Chelsea know exactly what he thought of their performance, and upon witnessing Van Dijk’s winner, took to the mic to take his shot at the Blues.

“In extra time, it’s been Klopp’s kids against the blue billion-pound bottlejobs,” exclaimed a spirited Neville on live air.

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino still remains on the hunt for his first trophy in English football, despite his previous spells in Tottenham and now Chelsea.

Meanwhile Jurgen Klopp’s farewell season at Liverpool seems to be a promising one, as the Reds are still in contention for the Premier League title, in the hunt for an FA Cup as well as the UEFA Europa League.
