Steps

Activating a Fire Alarm At Home

Go to your security panel or intercom. Sending a fire alarm depends on the model of security panel.

Locate the fire panic keys. These will be marked with a fire pictogram.

Depress the keys until the security alarm beeps. On the alarm system, you will see FIRE marked on the panel. You will also hear the fire alarm in your home or in your building sound.

Get everyone out of the unit. Remember to close doors to prevent the spread of fire or smoke throughout the residential building.

Call the fire department. If the alarm is not monitored, you will need to call the fire department to report the fire.

Activating a Commercial Fire Alarm

Locate the fire alarm activation station. This will be a red box on the wall or near a firefighting cabinet.

Press the button in or pull down. This will sound the fire alarm. You may also see orange and white stripes around the activated alarm and the button or lever lock into place.

Get everyone out of the affected fire floors. Remember to close doors to prevent the spread of fire or smoke throughout the building.

Call the fire department. If the alarm is not monitored, you will need to call the fire department to report the fire. However, monitored fire alarms are required in most commercial buildings.

Activating a Cruise Ship Fire Alarm
