At least 17 people were injured and one died in an explosion at a chemical factory in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon. The entire factory caught fire after the explosion. More casualties are feared since some people are still reportedly trapped inside the factory.

In a similar incident, three workers sustained burn injuries in an explosion at a firecracker factory in a forest area of Madhya Pradesh’s Indore district on Tuesday afternoon.

As per preliminary information, the explosion occurred when the workers were making ‘sutli’ bombs in a shed-like structure at the factory, about 5 km from Amba Chandan village, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Umakant Choudhary said.

Earlier this month, four people died and 16 others were injured in an explosion allegedly caused by a fire in a chemical factory in Telangana’s Sangareddy.

The plant is located about 40 km from Hyderabad International Airport. The fire, which spread through the factory’s premises, was subsequently brought under control, the officials said. The deceased include the pharma firm’s director and three workers, police said.

“The reactor exploded at the pharma company and people around it were thrown away in its impact… So far four people have died…10-15 people sustained injuries. They have been shifted to a hospital and are undergoing treatment,” a senior police official told PTI.
