Patna: At least 10 passengers died and six seriously injured when a bus rammed into an auto in Bihar’s Hajipur district on Tuesday morning.
Police said the incident happened near Sarai on National Highway 77.
The bus was going to Sitamarhi from Patna and the auto was coming from the opposite side. A police officer said the auto driver was ferrying 17 passengers against the officially prescribed limit of seven.
The impact of the collision was so intense that the auto was completely damaged. Nine people died on the spot and one succumbed to injuries in the Hajipur General Hospital. The condition of one of the six injured is stated to be serious.
The driver and helper of the bus fled the scene after the accident. An angry mob attacked the bus and damaged it.
