Twelve Malayalis were killed in two accidents on the Gulf roads on Wednesday. While nine people including four children lost their lives in Oman, three died in Ras Al Khaimah, one of the Emirates of the UAE.
Of the nine killed in Oman, five are from Kannur and the rest belong to Malappuram.
They have been identified as Puthiyapurayil Khalid Moulavi of Mattannoor, his wife Safnas and their children Anas, Hashim and Fathima.
The four others are from Kuttippuram. They are Animangalam Mustafa, 36, his wife Rukkiya, 30, their daughter Muhsina and their relative Risvan.
The car they were travelling in collided with an SUV at Khaima, 500 km from Muscat, around 3 am. The deceased were on their way to Muscat after visiting Salalah. Seven bodies are kept at the Niswa Government Hospital and two at Khaima Government Hospital.
Mustafa was running a business establishment at Al Khaboora, while Khalid Moulavi had a coffee shop at Al Bidayah.
There are unconfirmed reports that two locals who were travelling in the SUV also died.
In the accident at Ras Al Khaimah, three Karunagappally residents were killed when their car crashed against another vehicle at 1.30 am. The deceased have been identified as Kochalummood Velutheril Sameer Ismail, 24; Nediyedath Padikal Hashim Abdul Rehman, 21, and Thayyil Thekkethil Abdul Basheer, 42.
Sameer and Hashim were working at a mobile phone shop run by Abdul Basheer, who also runs a grocery store. Hashim had arrived just two days ago and Sameer landed a week ago.
