Even as Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh will visit NIT Srinagar to take stock of the situation, sources say a group of 20 students and a few faculty members are under the scanner for fanning trouble in the institute.
After several days of violence and tension, the situation is peaceful and classes are going on. But attendance is thin as a section of non-local students are still boycotting classes.
Several students were injured in the second round of violence in the campus on April 5, after Jammu and Kashmir Police opened lathi-charge and fired tear gas at protesting students. Following this the MHRD had to step in which sent a two member team to NIT Srinagar to look into the grievances of agitating students.
Tension started brewing inside the NIT campus, located on the banks of famous Dal lake, last week after India lost to West Indies in semi-final in the World T20 Cup prompting some local students to rejoice and burst crackers. This was protested by the outstation students resulting in clashes.
Union Human Resource Minister Smriti Irani will be visiting Srinagar on April 13 and she may go to NIT Srinagar too. Irani had on Wednesday said the Jammu & Kashmir government had assured her on the security of non-local students.
