Hazaribagh (Jharkhand): Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Friday said 23 villages in Hazaribagh district have never seen an electric bulb since independence.
"According to a survey, electricity has not reached to 23 villages in Hazaribagh and nine in Ramgarh district till today. All are extremists affected villages," Sinha told reporters here.
Sinha's statement came after he attended a meeting participated by Planning Commission Secretary Ranjan Chatterjee and its Director Biswajit Banerjee here on Friday to review schemes under Integrated Action Plan (IAP).
Deputy Commissioners of Hazaribagh and Ramgarh districts Manish Ranjan and Amitabh Kaushal respectively attended the review meeting.
Sinha, who represents Lok Sabha from Hazaribagh, said the meeting decided to provide the non-electrified villages with solar lights using funds sanctioned under the IAP.
The meeting has also decided to monitor progress of all centrally sponsored schemes at regular intervals and ensure funds provided by the Planning Commission used properly, Sinha said.
The meeting also directed the administration that all schemes should be proportionately distributed among villages identified for development under IAP.
Sinha said that the meeting decided to form a committee comprising DC, SP and divisional forest officers to monitor schemes.
