HYDERABAD: Customs officials detained three passengers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad here on Sunday and seized a huge quantity of memory cards and rhodium liquid from their possession. The trio brought the memory cards and the precious liquid, concealed in their baggage, from Dubai without paying duties, sources said.
Hailing from Mumbai, they arrived here by a Jet Airways flight from Dubai in the wee hours of Sunday. Acting on specific information, customs officials detained the trio and checked their baggage. From the baggage of two of them nearly 25,000 memory cards were seized. The cards are used as a storage device in mobile phones and electronic cameras. The value of the seized goods is more than Rs 75 lakh and the cards were concealed in two electric hot plate devices.Officials also found rhodium concealed in perfume bottles. Rhodium is used in gold plating and is very expensive. Two were identified as Ranjith and Akhtar while the third person's identity is being probed.
