CHENNAI: Police arrested three farmers on Friday for killing five stray dogs on November 2.K Manikandan (24), D Mani (23) and S Suman (21), all farmers who rear pigs at Tirusulam, were booked under Section 428 (mischief by killing or maiming an animal after taking money) of IPC and Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. A search has been launched for the security officer, Ganesh. Pallavaram police have filed a case based on a complaint from Don Williams, Blue Cross of India’s manager. The trio was produced before a magistrate court in Saidapet and were later released on bail. Ganesh sought the farmers’ help to catch the stray dogs as it was felt that they were a threat to the students and passers-by. A few months back, the farmers assisted the college administration by capturing the dogs and releasing them at Neelankarai. But, the dogs returned. On November 2, Blue Cross was intimated by passers-by, who saw the farmers killing the animals. The farmers frequented the campus to collect waste food to feed their pigs.
