Srinagar: Three terrorists were killed in a gunbattle with security forces in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, police said.
The encounter started in the morning after security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Khushi Mohalla in the district, about 35 kms from Srinagar.
Security forces reached there following information about presence of militants in the area, police said.
By afternoon, one militant was killed, but the other two continued to engage the forces.
In the last few months, the state has witnessed several encounters between security forces and terrorists.
On January 26, an unidentified terrorist was killed in a gunbattle with security forces in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.
A few days earlier, two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama. They were holed up in a house in Nayina Batpora in Pulwama.
Another terrorist was gunned down by security forces in a fierce fight at Zakura locality near Hazratbal in Srinagar on January 14. The security forces and the state police had surrounded the area following reports that two to three militants were hiding inside a house.
