5 of a family die in car mishap

KOZHIKODE: Five persons, including a baby girl, of a family from Vengeri here, were killed in a car accident at Shoolagiri near Hosur on the Bangalore-Salem highway on Tuesday midnight.The deceased have been identified as Umadevi, 51, her daughter Divya, 19, relative Arathy 28, Arathy’s husband Rajesh, 31, and their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Ahana.While Arathy, who was Umadevi’s sister’s daughter, hailed from Vengeri, her husband Rajesh was a native of Salem. Umadevi was staying with her elder daughter in Bangalore. “After her elder daughter’s marriage, Umadevi and Divya had moved to Bangalore (from Vengeri) with her”. “They were returning to Bangalore after visiting Rajesh and Arathy who were settled in Chennai. The latter were with them in the car when the mishap occurred,” Umadevi’s relative Ashokan said.The incident took place when a speeding truck rammed into their car on the Krishnagiri-Hosur route. While the bodies of Arathy, Rajesh and Ahana were taken to Salem, that of Umadevi and Divya were brought to Vengeri late on Wednesday.
