KOCHI: Kids drenched in colour yelled ‘Holi Hai,’ sprinkling and spraying colours at everyone around them at the Navaneetha Krishna temple in Mattanchery during the Gujarati community’s Holi celebrations on Friday.Though the change in astrological chart meant that the colour-splashing part of Holi be postponed by a day for the Gujaratis, the enthusiasm and fun was no less. “Colour splashing is the main event that the youngsters in the community look forward to. The day starts with ‘darshan’ of Lord Krishna and then the kids begin to apply colours on each other,” said Bhavesh, a member of the Gujarati community in Mattanchery.Elders pitched in too and not even the foreign tourists were spared. “We were told that Holi is not celebrated in Kerala. So, it came as a surprise when we were showered with colours while we were roaming around the streets. It was a lovely experience,” said Anika, a German who is in Kochi for a two-day tour. The celebrations included a series of poojas and in the end, the temple priest splashed a bucketful of colours at all the devotees. The celebrations came to an end with the devotees taking a dip in the sea to wash off the colours. Meanwhile, those present at the celebrations noted that fewer children were present than usual as the exams were underway and the ‘rang’ day fell on a working day.
