KOCHI: In the photographers’ circle, it would be termed a crime if a photographer misses a chance to photograph a rare, distressing moment. But curbing his instincts to click a snap, Joseph Owens Perrera, a wildlife photographer and bird watcher, alerted the police and Fire and Rescue Services officials in no time when he spotted high flames burning down the grassy land.   Accompanied by his friends, he also helped the firefighters prevent the fire from flaring up.  A BTech graduate, Joseph has been pursuing photography at the C-DIT and was in the area to take some wildlife snaps. “I was there with my friends to take photographs with my newly purchased DSLR camera. Suddenly, we noticed flames in the middle of the forest behind the old railway station. We informed the police and the Fire and Rescue Services officials without wasting time,” he said. “Within a few minutes their vehicle reached the spot. But firefighters had to struggle hard to douse the fire as it had engulfed a considerable chunk of the forest area,” Joseph added. He said that the forest area behind the old railway station is vulnerable to fire. “The grassy land there is fully dried. If such fire occurs again, birds, reptiles and other wild animals would die. The authorities should take preventive measures to avoid such a disaster” he added.
