THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A drunken misadventure of two men, who sped their car into the Secretariat premises ignoring the security personnel, caused panic among the police and employees of the state administrative headquarters for several moments on Tuesday. The incident happened around 3 p.m. The Cantonment Police booked the two men, identified as Afsal, 36, of Kaniyapuram and Sajith, 34, of Vetturoad near Kazhakoottam, and slapped them with multiple charges of trespassing into high security area and driving motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The police said that what landed the two in a soup followed a case of road rage involving the car driven by the two accused and another State government-owned car which was heading towards the Secretariat. According to the accused, they were merely trying to chase the government car that hit their vehicle and sped without stopping. The men, infuriated and also under the influence of alcohol, chased the other vehicle. They did not realise that they had entered the high security zone of the Secretariat while chasing the other car. While doing so, they drove their vehicle through the Cantonment gate and headed towards the Canteen gate where they were stopped by the security personnel and other employees. Police confiscated their car and took both into custody. Bottles of alcohol were recovered from the vehicle. However, they were later let out on bail after the police verified their credentials and found out that they have no criminal background. Both of them turned to be small-scale businessmen at Kazhakoottam region of the city.
