Mumbai: Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra launched a book which has the original screenplay of his superhit film 3 Idiots.
The film, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, created a stir when it released. It not only managed to hit a jackpot at the box office but also bagged six Filmfare awards and 10 Star Screen Awards. It also won honours at the IIFA Awards 2010.
The masses went gaga over the film and one of the major reasons being the simplicity of the dialogues.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra said, “The idea of the book is that the people who loved the film can buy the book and read the dialogues, see some exclusive pictures and read the interviews of the stars. The message of 3 Idiots and the irrepressible spirit of its characters have touched the heart of millions of people in India and all over the world. The book helps the fans to relive the film's magic.”
Vidhu also shared his disappointment about the lack of information about old films. “It is such a tragedy that when you walk in to a book store to find the screenplay of The Godfather, the answer is yes. But if you want a screenplay of a great film like say Sahib Biwi aur Ghulam, the answer is no.”
Rajkumar Hirani did not beg to differ. He explained, “We make more than 800 films in the country (every year) and not even eight films are documented. We have very little books on Hindi cinema and we thought of initiating this idea with our films. The book is for film lovers.”
The entire cast which includes Kareena Kapoor, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi were present for the book launch. However, the third idiot, Aamir Khan, was missing. When quizzed about Aamir to Vinod, he jokingly said, “I am the third Idiot today.”
