As he recuperates after surgery last month, Amitabh Bachchan is being accused of promoting the unhealthy practice of smoking.

NOTE had taken strong objection to the hoarding that was displayed along national highway near Panaji. The hoarding, which was part of publicity for Bachchan's forthcoming film Family, features the megastar smoking a cigar.

Bachchan has been given a period of eight days to reply to the notice.

The hoarding the public's attention on December 25th and was taken off on January 1, when NOTE issued an advertisement in local newspapers pointing to the violation of the act.

However, Keshu Ramsay, the producer of Family says no notice has been sent to him. The only form of communication has been the phone calls from people protesting against the hoarding.

Ramsay says he will not remove the posters unless he receives a legal notice from an official government agency. These posters have been up since last month.
