CHENNAI: A day after dropping six ministers from the Cabinet, Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Saturday relieved many senior functionaries of the party who have been functioning as in charge of three or four party districts to oversee and tone up the party affairs for the last past couple of years.Jayalalithaa made the announcement in a one-line statement without specifying whether or not these functionaries would be replaced. The AIADMK has 52 party districts with separate secretaries for each of them.Party sources said in the coming days, some of the district secretaries and other functionaries are likely to be changed based on their performance. In January last year, the CM had introduced a new layer of hierarchy in the party by appointing senior leaders as in charges of districts. Those who were appointed for the post include O Panneerselvam, E Madhusudanan, O Panneerselvam, K A Sengottaiyan, M Thambidurai, Pollachi V Jayaraman, S Semmalai, Dr S Venkatesh, Durai Govindarajan, R B Udhayakumar, Gokula Indira, Anwar Razza and Maitreyan. Later, some of them were replaced.
